Summary: This study aims to understand how the representation of women contributes to
the construction of humor in the play Hello Creuzodete , by Milson Henriques. To
this end, bibliographic and documentary research were adopted as
methodological procedures, and the analysis was grounded in the conceptions of
representation proposed by Roger Chartier (1991) and e Bourdieu (2012).The
analysis focused on the discursive and linguistic aspects of humor, based on the
reflections of Sírio Possenti (1998) and Victor Raskin (1985). In addition to these
authors, the contributions on humor and laughter developed by Vladimir Propp
(1992), Mikhail Bakhtin (1987), and Terry Eagleton (2022) were also considered.
The study found that the main humorous strategies employed in the play — such
as ambiguity, exaggeration, irony, stereotypes, the grotesque, and the breaking
of expectations — shape the representation of the character Marly, the
protagonist of the work, promoting a rupture with the social standards prevailing
at the time.
