Summary: This master‟s dissertation predicts an analysis of the work Becos da Memória (2013) by
Conceição Evaristo. A discussion was developed on how the territorial denials imposed
on black population transcend geographical aspects, reach Afro-Brazilian
subjectivityand affect it.The intersection between gender and ethnicity is investigated in
the struggles of black women for social spaces, including speech/writing.The literary
production by Conceição Evaristo and the enunciation of Maria Nova, black narrator
woman, are results of these struggles.A historical overview of favela‟s emergence is
presented, which is seen as a precarious housing alternative resulting from the lack of
urban planning forblack population.Orality and memory are discussed as black ancestral
heritages. The hypothesis is that through the word it is possible to build a place, and
deconstruct a non-placeto the resilient black voices, silenced and excluded from their
territories.
